Bowman Cemetery
Data compiled by Bob & Sharen Caldwell 4-5-1997

Located on Highway 86 approx. half-way between Bowman Church & Taney County Line

Note - According to Brother Lassiter of the Bowman Pentecost Church, this cemetery was created by the U.S. Corp. of Engineers when relocating a small church cemetery before creation of Table Rock Lake. The name of the original church was unknown to Brother Lassiter, and no connection exists between the current Bowman Church and this cemetery.

No provision was apparently ever made for upkeep of this cemetery, and it has largely returned to nature. Few locals know of this cemetery, and it would have been impossible to find without Brother Lassiter's assistance. There are no signs, and nothing is visible from the road. The cemetery occupies under ½ acre of land. Heavy brush and leaf strewn ground make this ideal habitat for snakes, so I would caution any potential visitors. The current state of the cemetery precludes trying to establish much order, but we endeavored to start at the front of the cemetery and work in a clockwise direction. It is impossible to be certain how many graves are here, due to rotting wooden grave markers, heavy brush, etc., but I would venture that at least 30 graves exist here, though we could identify only 28 for certain.
