Please email Robin
Biddle if you recognize any of the people in these school photos.
Some of the people in these photographs have been identified by Bonnie
L. Whittemore, daughter of Lundy Barton. Lundy Barton is in the front
row, second from the right of Elijah Stone who is the man seated.
Bonnie adds, "Also in the front row are my Aunt Eula Barton (the smallest
girl in the white dress) and my Aunt Veta Barton (also in a white dress
and two to the right of my father). Frank Ward is the sixth child
to the right of Elijah Stone. In the back row, left to right, are Thomas
Barton, Dewey War, Arlis Barton, Oliver Foster, and then Ray Ward. In the
second row from the bottom, and it is hard to tell just where the rows
are, the third girl from the left is Zula MaeWard and the fourth from left
is Vera Barton. The Bartons were the children of Wm. Riley and Nancy Barton
and the Wards were the children of Wm. Dennis and Lenora Rainey Ward.
Wm. Riley Barton was born in Galena in 1872, the son of William Barton
and Mary Wooley Barton. William D. Ward and Lenora Rainey were married
in Stone County 23 Dec. 1889. Arlis Barton married Zula Mae Ward
in Galena 1 Mar 1917. The Barton and Ward families all moved to South
Dakota the next year. Mae Ward Barton passed away last Wednesday,
Feb. 9, 2000 at the age 0f 101."
Two people in the above photo have been identifed by Bonnie
L. Whittemore. Back row, third from left is Vera Barton. Next to her
is Mae Ward (fourth from left).
We are grateful to Norma
L. Foster Cox for the information on the photo above:
"The gentleman on the left end in the front row is my
great-grandfather, James Marion "Uncle Jim" Foster. These people
are a few of the ones for whom he performed marriage ceremonies.
Sorry that I don't have an exact date this photo was taken, but I believe
it was in the 1940s."
