Dr. Lafayette Henson was born October  6, 1858 and died October 2, 1919. He was the son of Zacharia Henson and Amala Williams Henson. He was married to Sarah Francis Melton Dec. 21, 1876 in Stone County Missouri. She was daughter of E.J. and Susan Overstreet Melton. Dr. Henson entered the Missouri Medical College in St. Louis, Missouri on March 1, 1881 and graduated March 6, 1883. He was the first registered physician of  Stone County, and the first native citizen to graduate with a degree in medicine.
