HILL & MAY FAMILY MEMBERS

Young . According to Rose, "The younger couple on the left are
my great grandparents, John Newton & Sarah Belle (May) Hill. In Sarah's
lap is my grandfather, George Arnold Hill and the toddler next to them
is their oldest child Leonidas. The elderly couple are William Henderson
May & Nancy (Stockstill) May. The young men are son's of William &
Nancy (Stockstill) May. I'm unsure of what their names are, I think one
is named Patrick. The other children are the May's other grandchildren.
It was taken circa 1897 in Stone County (Galena I think)."

As soon as the picture went online Jo
Holt Hartley, great-granddaughter of W.H. and Nancy May saw it and
was able to identify the other family members above.
According to Jo, "Next to Johnny Hill is Clyde Scott,
then Velma Holt, Nancy Holt, Sarah (Sadie) Holt, daughters of Isobel May
& William H. Holt. William H. May with daughter Birdie (Bertha),
Nancy E. Stockstill May, Johnny May and Lee May who was a nephew."
"Velma & Sadie Holt married George & John Norris.
Nancy married David Gentry. I believe Clyde died young. Descendants
of these folks are scattered all over the world."
"This picture was taken at the May home near Galena.
Last I knew Frank Kerr owned the property."
UPDATE TO THE UPDATE
According to an email from Pam
Coones on October 5, 2001 Clyde Scott did not die young. He was
still living at the time of his parents deaths. This information
can be verified through the obituaries of his parents. We are grateful
to Pam for taking the time to supply this information for researchers.
