SPRING CREEK MILL
Hurley, Missouri
Spring Creek Mill, located on the banks of Spring Creek in Hurley was built in 1892 by James Reynolds and Pryor Sanders. The first miller was E. R. Scott. The mill is now owned by the Christenson family of Hurley. They have plans for a museum and gift shop in the mill. Mr. Christenson recently acquired a burr stone from the old Reynold's Mill which was located a few miles from Hurley. He stated that the stone was all that was left of the Reynold's Mill which burned in the Civil War. The photo above is how the mill looked in 1998. (Photo courtesy of  Jo Dunne)

On April 3, 2005 the old Spring Creek Mill burned to the ground. Kathryn Buckstaff who wrote the account for the Springfield Newsleader said it best, "The acrid smell of charred history is all that remains of a community's heritage after the  Spring Creek Mill burned to the ground Sunday afternoon."
