This scanned image of a tin type is believed to be Tarlton Logan, the
"Father of the Stone County Logans", and his wife, Jane Campbell. Tarlton
was born January 7, 1805, died circa 1877/1878. His wife, Jane was
born April 9, 1800, died June 1877.
For information on descendants of Tarlton and Jane Logan please contact Cheri Mello. The actual tin type is probably from the 1860's. According to "Collector's Guide To Early Photographs" by Henry Mace tin types were introduced in 1856. The peak years for tin types were from 1860 to 1863. Their popularity started to wane in 1865 and by 1867 other methods of photography were in use. |
