Missouri appears to be afloat in James River, during the flooding of March
2008, when heavy rainfalls swelled the river beyond the banks. Photo

James River flood waters wash across the state highway
to threaten the video store.
In the 1970's when the video store building was built
it was a supermarket operated by Jerry and Dixie Mitchell. Photo

James River makes an unwelcomed deposit of flood waters
at the Stone County National Bank, Galena branch. The bank building
and the U.S. Post Office in the background sit on land that was riverbottom
in the 1960s. Around the 1980s, landfill was used to create land
for the bank and later the post office. Photo by Junior Warren

The Y Bridge into Galena shows the levels of the James
River flood waters. In the background, the flood waters are at the
edge of the Y Bridge Park. The large block square structure in the
background is a private home. In the 1960s this building was the

James River's flood waters rush under the New Bridge
in March 2008. The New Bridge was built in the late 1970s and actually
bypasses Galena, while the Y Bridge leads directly into Galena. Now,
the Y Bridge is a pedestrian only bridge. Photo by Junior Warren
Y Bridge Boulevard Under the James River. The street
below James River was once a state highway that in the 1960s had a Trail
of Tears sign on the shoulder. The sign is long gone. James
River left the banks to submerge this street for most of its length during
the flood of March 2008. Photo by Junior Warren
