William A. "Bud" Jackson
William A. "Bud" Jackson was born in Indian Territory to Hugh T. and
Mollie Gold Jackson. Around 1886, Hugh left Mollie and Bud at the home
of Mollie's parents. Hugh was never seen alive again. Bud's mother remarried
in 1892 to Isaac Rapp; family stories tell how Bud was mistreated by Isaac.
Bud lived with other family members until his marriage to Minnie Lee Maples
in 1901. They had three surviving children: Herman (my grandfather), Audrea
Pearl, and Curtis. Bud and Minnie raised tomatoes for canning at the old
cannery at Brown's Spring, near where they lived. He was reportedly
very well respected and liked; was a community leader and lead the congregational
singing at the Union Ridge Baptist Church. He died suddenly in 1918, at
the age of 37. Bud and Minnie
are buried in the Union Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, east of Union
City. (Photo courtesy of Paul Jackson)
